OK so you’re not interested in radio “sales” just yet (that’s what many of my radio pals said before they found out that’s where the money is) but the point of this article is to introduce you to the reality of the fact that radio is a business first…and “sales” is ultimately what drives the big radio machine. Without it no one gets paid! So, for a moment, let’s take a look at today’s radio sales rep AKA: AE. While soldering on in a tight budgeted economy, these folks still are expected to pound the pavement and convince local businesses to invest some of their budget into advertising on the radio just the same…the thing is… “things” are not the same at all. You already know money’s still tight almost everywhere and rather than list all of the digital competitors out there attempting to reach you, the listener, let’s just clump them into the “digital world”. By the way , these digital guys aren’t going away and, in fact, are gaining ground. So what do you do?
