Redefining College Radio’s Reach September 23, 2011

With all of the recent sell offs of college radio frequencies across the country it would appear, to some, that the end is near for college radio. This couldn’t be further from the truth. The fact is most college stations are alive and well and now providing their creative and interesting programs on the Internet. True-you have to make more of an effort to find them, and, (for now) you can’t take them with you (unless you have a smart phone and the right accessories) but, thankfully, the Internet does provide an opportunity to broadcast. The trick is to discover new ways to market the stations and let people, who once enjoyed college programming over a terrestrial signal. With the social network and effective marketing , (and creative programming) stations having the airwaves stripped out from under them now have an opportunity to not only reinvent themselves but positively embrace broadcasting on the Internet because, sooner than later, we all will be tuning in on the Internet and there’s something to be said about first adaptors.
